Abstract: Law and Information Technology is a
fourth year optional course in the School of Law at the University of
Waikato, and was ideally suited to being taught using a mixed media teaching
approach; the course is taught partly by traditional face to face lectures
and partly by online delivery. The online delivery was through a course
website which was intertwined with Class Forum (Web-Crossing), an interactive
software discussion package. This paper will focus on the development
of the course, focusing on the introduction of new teaching methods, the
pedagogic underpinnings and the student’s reaction to those methodologies
